Coming home
Although the end of a prison sentence is usually a reason for celebration, for some it is a cause for concern. The certainties of prison life are replaced with the uncertainties of life on the outside – homelessness, the struggle to find work and money for food, lack of support. Some ex-prisoners may not have even lived in the UK for many years.
For families and friends too, the return of a loved one can raise uncomfortable issues. Situations may have changed, relationships may have changed or broken down during imprisonment, and if there are children to consider these issues are magnified.
Prisoners Abroad offers support for ex-prisoners looking to resettle in the UK after imprisonment in a foreign country. We can help with finding somewhere to live, offer guidance through the benefits system, and provide practical advice on the many concerns you may have. To qualify for your support, you must have been in contact with us before your release. Unfortunately we cannot help ex-prisoners whom we have not worked with during their imprisonment.

"Thanks to Prisoners Abroad I learned my way around this big city and never slept on the street once. They have a lot of people needing a lot of different things, yet they always made time for all us and had everything sorted, without ever judging any of us because of our crimes."
