Spring 2010 Newsletter (2MB)

This edition of the newsletter leads with the amazing story of a Briton held in France who was invited to be part of the a special version of the Tour de France, just for prisoners. He’s now back in the UK and tells us the lessons he learnt from his involvement with the world’s greatest cycle race. Also in this edition we have extracts from the diary of a woman waiting for transfer from the USA to the UK, as well as her first impressions of the British prison system.

Winter 2009 Newsletter (1.3MB)

"That night I could not sleep, I felt sick, it felt as if I had a large lead weight in the pit of my stomach. All night long I was turning it over in my head what is going to happen to my son, I had no idea. The next day I went to work, but I couldn’t eat or concentrate properly. At around 4pm I received a call from my son’s mobile. Hello mum, he said. He then began to cry and said that he was on his way to court and that he would probably get a prison sentence. I was in total shock, I told him I would always be there for him that I loved him and would do all I could for him."

Summer 2009 Newsletter (3.5MB)

"I can’t exactly remember where I was when my phone rang. It was about a month after I was released from France and had come back to the UK. The voice on the other end said, 'Hi, this is Stephen from Prisoners Abroad, just phoning to ask whether you could be a judge for this years Koestler Award, as you were the winner last year.' No problem, I replied, just let me know when and where. Dates and times were set, and the call ended. Then the reality of what I had agreed to set in."

Spring 2009 Newsletter (1.3MB)

This edition of the newsletter has a very 21st century feel to it, as the main story tells the tale of a man who met the love of his life on the internet... only to find out she wasn't all that she seemed! There are also vignettes of prison life from France and the USA, as well as some yoga tips courtesy of our friends at the Prison Pheonix Trust. There's also an update from Shaun Attwood, the recently released Koestler prize winning writer and blogger, which keeps us very firmly in the internet age!
