Christmas 2011
We need your help. Think about what decent food, a blanket, or even a Christmas card would mean to you if you were in a prison far from home and family.
Whatever Christmas means to you, it’s safe to say that for many people imprisoned overseas, and their families back home, it is by far the hardest and most desperate time of the year.
This will be the fourth Christmas Day where Billy wakes up in his cell. His Christmas dinner will be the usual tiny serving of dirty, gritty rice - enough to keep him alive, but that’s it. For Billy, Christmas Day means less each year. The only real difference is that he misses his family even more than usual.
They miss him too - every Christmas since his arrest has been marked by his absence and the space at the table where he should be.
£20 could make sure that Billy, and others like him can afford to buy decent food over the Christmas period. Donate now >
Susie doesn’t feel like she has any family - her parents stopped replying to her letters a few months after she was sentenced. She thinks maybe they find it too upsetting to stay in touch. She didn’t hear from them last Christmas. It broke her heart.
But she did hear from us – and she heard from some of our supporters who sent her a Christmas card too.
She told us: ‘your cards brought a rare smile to my life - thank you all.’
This year she’ll hear from us again. Small things mean so much when you’re in a place as unforgiving as where she is.

We heard about Robert in September. For his safety, we can’t disclose which country he’s in.
Since being sent to prison the conditions and diet have caused his health to suffer dramatically. We know that for him to survive through Christmas and into the New Year he’ll need our help to buy blankets and warm clothes for the coming winter.
We’re already sending him a regular grant to pay for food and vitamins to help him get back to health. With your help, he has a chance. He has a difficult time ahead, but with your support poor health will be one less challenge he has to cope with.
£20 can help to make sure that people like Robert, held in such inhumane places, get the help they desperately need. Donate now >
