Official report confirms lack of food in Ecuador's prisons
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has issued a report on its recent visit to Ecuador confirming that prisoners are not given 'adequate nourishment'.
The report states that prisons have a budget of just one dollar per day per prisoner to provide food, and that this is not enough to feed the prison population, which currently stands at around 11,000.
They also claim that there is a shortage of medicine and medical professionals. We know that this is affecting Britons, as twice during the past year we have paid for medication for a Briton held there who has a serious heart condition.
