Richard Price, a former probation officer and senior figure in the UK public affairs and communications industry, has been named as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Prisoners Abroad. He takes over from Kevin Fitzgerald, who has been Chair for the last six years.
Prisoners Abroad is currently supporting Paul and this year he was awarded the Prisoners Abroad Platinum Award for Painting.
This is a guest blog from Shaun Attwood who kindly granted us permission to republish his blog from Jon’s Jail Journal. In it Shaun discusses creativity behind bars and curating this year’s Koestler Trust exhibition of prisoner artwork.
We are delighted to announce that Edmund de Waal's watermark, auctioned over the last week, has sold for £19,600 which will go towards our life-saving work. The proceeds of the auction will make a huge difference to the people we help. £19,600 is enough to provide a year's worth of survival grants to 50 British citizens detained in appalling conditions, enabling them to access basic necessities like food and clean water. In the words of someone we recently helped in Thailand: "Your support is an unbelievable help. I stay in a regional prison with no other foreigners. The conditions and food are very basic to say the least. With your support I'm able to buy my own food, mostly protein, also stamps and writing materials. These small things make such a big difference. Thank you so very much." We would like to thank Edmund de Waal for his amazing generosity in donating watermark to us. It will make a wonderful contribution to our work. Find out more about our work.
