After three years as Chief Executive, Christopher Stacey will be leaving Prisoners Abroad towards the end of September to take up the role of Chief Executive at Advocate, the national charity finding free legal help from barristers.

Following Christopher's departure, Zeta MacDonald, currently Deputy Chief Executive, will serve as Interim Chief Executive while the trustees oversee arrangements for the appointment of a permanent successor. This transition will ensure continuity for beneficiaries, partners, funders, supporters and staff.

Nick Prettejohn, Chair of Trustees, said:

"On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Christopher for his leadership, commitment and dedication to Prisoners Abroad over the past three years. He has helped strengthen the organisation through a period of significant development and we are well positioned as a result of his work with the team. We wish him every success in his new role. 

“The Board is delighted that Zeta has agreed to serve as Interim Chief Executive. We are confident that our services, partnerships and strategic priorities will continue uninterrupted."

"Leading Prisoners Abroad over the past three years has been a tremendous privilege and I am incredibly proud of everything that the organisation has achieved during that time to have developed strong foundations and building blocks for the future – establishing a clear strategic direction, strengthening financial resilience, deepening a commitment to lived experience and developing our advocacy work to influence policy and practice - and of the dedication and compassion shown every day by our staff, volunteers, supporters and donors.

“Prisoners Abroad provides vital support to some of the most vulnerable British people overseas and their families, and I know the organisation will continue to make a profound difference in the years ahead.

“After careful reflection, I feel this is the right time for me to take on a new challenge which connects strongly with my longstanding commitment to the law and access to justice. I am grateful for everything I have learned during my time at Prisoners Abroad. I look forward to working closely with colleagues and the Board over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition."
